Easter Eggstravaganza: A Celebration Growing in Joy and Community
There’s something truly special about traditions that evolve while holding onto their heart—and that’s exactly what’s happening with Revd Elaine’s annual Easter egg giveaway.
At this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza, held over four lively hours on Saturday 4 April in St Petroc’s Church, Bodmin, one regular attendee summed it up perfectly:
“It’s different now. It used to be just eggs outside the church but now it’s so much more!”
And what a transformation it has been.
While the simple joy of giving away Easter eggs remains at the centre of the event, it has blossomed into a vibrant, all-encompassing community celebration. Families arriving at the church were welcomed not only with chocolate treats, but with a whole host of activities designed to bring people together, spark creativity, and share the message of Easter in engaging ways.
The day began with a grand opening by Bodmin’s mayor, setting a festive tone that carried through the day. From there, the church grounds buzzed with life: dance performances entertained the crowds, children bounced with delight on a large inflatable, and colourful balloon sculptures took shape before eager eyes.
Creative corners invited children and adults alike to try their hand at pebble painting, bead crafts, and building brick creations. Elsewhere, laughter rang out over games with hoops, skipping ropes, and bubble-making stations. For those with green fingers sunflower seed planting offered a chance to take a little piece of the day home.
At the heart of the celebration remained moments of reflection and meaning. As in previous years, visitors could write prayers and add them to the prayer tree, and this year interactive crafts and a trail told the Easter story, ensuring that the message behind the celebration was as present as the fun itself.
Local groups joined in, adding to the sense of community, while refreshments kept everyone fuelled. From drinks and hot cross buns to the much-loved slow-cooked lamb wraps, there was something for everyone to enjoy—freely given, just like everything else at the event.
This spirit of generosity is made possible by Revd Elaine, alongside the dedicated support of Bodmin Way Community Health & Wellbeing Workers, a Parish Nursing Assistant, and a team of family, friends, and volunteers and local donations, with eggs donated by Community Heart. Together, they have created something that feels far bigger than a single event—it feels like a growing movement of kindness, inclusion, and shared joy.
Spending time at the Eggstravaganza leaves a lasting impression. It’s not just about what’s offered, but how it’s offered: freely, warmly, and with genuine care for the community.
If this year is anything to go by, one thing is certain—the Easter Eggstravaganza isn’t just growing in size, but in heart. And as it continues to evolve year on year, it’s becoming a highlight of the community calendar.
