Meet Catherine — one of the friendly faces at St. Petroc’s Church
For several months, Catherine has served as a much-loved sidesperson , greeting everyone with a warm welcome and a cheerful smile as she hands out hymn books. More recently, she has also taken on the important role of sacristan . Early on Sunday mornings you’ll find her in the sacristy, carefully preparing the chalice (cup), paten (plate), wafers, wine, and other items for Holy Communion. Tower Tour
The bell tower tour held in early December was a great success, with eight people attending to learn more about bellringing from expert Paul Scoble. After discovering how bellringing works, everyone had the opportunity to ring a bell themselves. While chatting with visitors as they waited their turn, the bellringers explained that the “fluffy” section of each rope is called the sally . Advent Candle Lights Up at Community Cuppa
There was a joyful start to the Advent season at Community Cuppa as Brenda and Bonnie, the wonderfully creative craft leaders, were invited to light the first candle on the church’s Advent wreath. The glow of the flame, accompanied by prayers and much-loved Christmas carols, filled the church with warmth and anticipation. Revd Elaine shared the excitement of the season, saying: “We will light a candle on the next three Thursdays, just before the Sundays of Advent.”

Pam Sloan receives a British Empire Medal
On All Souls’ Day, 2 November 2025 — a day when inspirational people are remembered — Pam Sloan was recognised for her outstanding service to the local community with the award of a British Empire Medal (BEM). Cornwall’s Lord Lieutenant, Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho OBE, said it was important to present the award within the local community where the service had been given.
